Bullet molds like this one were used to make lead musket balls. The two halves of the mold were put together and molten lead was poured into each section through the hole along the edge. This mold dates from the American Revolution. It is made from soapstone and could make eight seventy-five caliber balls at a time. A British Short Land Pattern musket, more popularly known as a "Brown Bess," used this caliber musket ball.
