Boston Tea Party

The name given to a colonial protest in Boston in 1773 in response to Parliament's insistence that it had the right to tax the colonies in all cases whatsoever. Rather than paying a tax on imported tea and thus acknowledging Parliament's insistence that it had the right to tax the colonies, colonists boarded English vessels and destroyed the cargo of tea by dumping it into Boston Harbor.
