Grapeshot

Date: c. 1780
About this artifact

This is the size and type of iron grapeshot fired at the Regulators as they advanced on the United States Arsenal at Springfield. The word grapeshot did not refer to the size of the ball; grapeshot could be much larger, depending on the size of the gun firing it. Grapeshot refers to the way in which the iron balls were packaged in bunches resembling clusters of grapes.
