Oath of Allegiance, Deerfield

Date: 1787 - 1790
About this artifact

As the turmoil and unrest in Massachusetts intensified, the government responded by passing a law requiring elected all officials, including town officers, to take an oath of allegiance to the state of Massachusetts. The Deerfield town officers who took this oath promised to defend the Commonwealth "traiterous Conspiracies and all hostile Attempts whatsoever."
