During the fall of 1783, many types of fabrics were available for purchase at John Williams' store in Deerfield, Massachusetts. The Revolutionary War was over, and imported fabric was once again on the shelves. There was a great need and desire for the fabrics that had not been available during the war years. This stack of reproduction fabric represents some of the types in Williams' inventory. Printed cottons were often imported from India, and the fine woolens would have been manufactured in England. The brown cotton chintz on top of the stack is very similar to the fabric used to make the chintz gown that also appears on this website.
