About this artifact

Men who participated in Shays' Rebellion were required to give up their arms and swear an Oath of Allegiance to the Commonwealth of Massachusetts in order to receive a pardon. Seth Catlin writes to Lieutenant James Stewart of Colerain, Massachusetts, advising him that he will be in Greenfield at Reuban Wells' tavern the following Thursday for that purpose. Catlin advises Stewart to make sure that Regulators who have not yet taken the oath, come to Greenfield on that day.
