About this artifact

Porringers, with their shallow bowls and attached ears, or handles, were widely used for both eating and drinking, and were made by pewterers in America from the colonial period until about 1825. The trefoil solid handle and pierced ("flowered") handles distinguishes these examples by David Melville in Newport, Rhode Island.
