Septr 24: Preached Prov. 30 .12 -hear there is a rising
intended to break up the court at Springfield-the militia are
called to support them-the case was this as
Esq Matoon informed me. at a genll Training on
Review of Col Whittemores Regiment a Certain
Cap Grover gave out that he would inlist
150 Men that Night to break up the Superior
Court (for those who had broke up the Infe-
rior Court Now began to be Sensible they were
opposed to be indited at the Superior if that sat) &
did inlist many-Genl Shepard being there thought
it his Duty to inform the Governor- who ordered
him to call the Militia to defend the courts.

25 Monday-both Trainedbands met in this
Town-but were greatly divided in senti-
ment, a great Number favored the Mobb
The steady Men however were for support of
Authority

26 Tuesday- this morn the militia marched off
from here about 3 P- also a Party for the Mobb
the Militia got possession of the ground by the
CourtHouse, got a Fieldpiece &c
the Mob came in some packing? or ?: they shot? to the Court Capt
Sheys of Pelham at the Head of the Mobb,
Capt Tim & Jos Hinds there very fierce

27 Wednesday The court did but little Business
some committees between militia and mob

28 Thursday- doth the Court adjourned & the Com-
mittees agreed that Militia shd march to
the Labratory Hill and there dis band, that Capt
shays might march thro' the Town & counter
march his Men to the ground wc they occupied
before & then dismiss them-that the Genl
Court excluding the Representatives of this
County shd determine whether the militia
shd have pay-that they wd each throw off
the Badges a white Paper in ye Militia's Hats Green Bush
in yemob's & go Home friendly -the militia
complied & mob in Part, they wd not many of
them throw off their Badges-wc occasioned a
squabble soon after-next sabbath many
of the foolish young & some old men wore green bushes
in their Hats & at Amherst East (?)

29 Fryday- Mobb returned, the militia mostly
last Night

30 sat pM I rode to Amherst, a Mr Draper
came here
