Genl Lincoln with a Military force coming to Worcester
to protect the Court to set there next week The mob
are Collecting, & to march from this town the 20th
Shays collected his Troops agt govt at Palmer, Day
another party at West Springfield-Shays sent to
Day to attack the guard at the Ferry at Springfield
the 25. at 3 pm while he attacked the guard at the
stores, Shays marched accordingly, Genl Sheperd sent
him 3 Messages, that if he advanced he would fire on
him, Shays, however persisted, Sheperd ordd guns to
be fired to the right & Left of them, they still advanced
& at 55 Rods distance Sheperd fired a cannon at
them, it killed 3. mortelly wounded another. Shays
retreated to Ludlow in great Precipitation, next Day went
to Chicabe-Genl Lincoln with 3000 Troops arrived
at Springfield the 26 - the 27th. dislodged Day from west
Springfield releavement? to N. Hampton. NB. Day did
not attack as shays expected the 25, but sent a Letter to
Shays to attack the 26 at 3. pm -a Capt Walker was
taken with the Letter-Shays marched to Amherst the
28 at Night- took a guard at South Hadly -& by accidt
killed one of his own Men. Genl Lincoln marched to
Hadley the 30-31 sent [-]
