David Humphreys to Governor Huntington Regarding Resignations

Col D. Humphreys Hartford Decr 18th 1786
Sir to Gov: Huntington

It has not been in my power, before
the present moment, to inform your Excellency
of all the resignations which have taken place
together with the names of such persons as might
be proper to fill their vacancies.

xCaptains [?] Clift & xRobinson, Leiut. Hart &
Ensign Wheeler have declined accepting their ap=
pointments. After making unsuccessful overtures
to Captn Rogers, Mr Benjamins & Mr Mix to
know whether they would accept of Captaincies,
in case of appointment:--I beg leave to recom=
mend, to your Excellency, the following Gentle=
men to fill the following vacancies. viz—
Captain Moses Cleveland (of Canterbury) to be
Captain, vice Clift. —
Leiut Joseph Wilcox (now in Service
at West Point) to be Captn. vice Robinson.
Mr Russel Bissel (of Windsor, former=
ly a Lt in the State Service: recommended
by Captn Buell, to whose Compy he may be
annexed) to be Leiutenant. vice Hart.
Mr John Thomson (recommended by the Honble
andrew Adams & others) to be Ensign. vice. Wheeler
